Oyo State Government today commemorated International Youth Day with an Awareness Walk and Environmental Clean-up, emphasizing the importance of youth participation in sustainable development.
The event, which kicked off at 10 am from the State Secretariat to Bodija Market, aimed to raise awareness about the potential of digital innovation in driving sustainable growth. This year’s theme, “Youth Digital Innovation for Sustainable Development,” aligns with the global theme, highlighting the need for young people to leverage technology for a better future.
The walk and clean-up exercise brought together hundreds of youth, government officials, and community leaders, who demonstrated their commitment to creating a positive impact in their community.
In his address, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Honourable Wasilat Adegoke emphasized the significance of empowering young people to become active contributors to sustainable development. “We recognize the creativity, energy, and innovation that youth bring to the table. By harnessing digital innovation, we can unlock new opportunities for growth and development,” she said.
The Oyo State Government’s celebration of International Youth Day took a significant turn as dignitaries charged young participants to prioritize self-development. Chairman of the Oyo State Hospital Management Board, Dr. Akin Fagbemi, joined the walk and urged youths to be more dedicated to their personal growth.
Similarly, Oyo State Youth Agency Chairman, Prince Adebowale Falana, encouraged young participants to take advantage of the program lineup for the celebration. He emphasized the importance of leveraging opportunities for self-improvement.
State Youth Leader of the PDP, Comrade Michael Ogunsina, expressed gratitude to Governor Makinde for consistently identifying with the youth. His sentiments were echoed by NYCN Chairman in Oyo State, Comrade Quadri, who commended the youths in the state for their conduct during the last protest.
The event featured a walk and other activities aimed at promoting youth development and engagement. Speakers at the event praised the youths for their maturity and sense of responsibility, urging them to continue striving for excellence.
