Tanker Accident at Akobo: Diesel Spillage Causes Commotion
A tanker loaded with diesel fell at Akobo, near the Barracks Second Gate, causing a commotion in the area. According to an eyewitness who spoke with Newslamp correspondence, the fully loaded truck attempted to navigate the hilly side of the road but stopped midway and began reversing. Unfortunately, the tanker hit the side of the drainage and fell, resulting in a significant spillage of diesel onto the road.
Fortunately, no lives were lost, and no injuries were reported in the incident. However, the spillage has caused concerns about safety and environmental impact.
Responding promptly to the situation, officials from the Oyo State Road Maintenance Agency (OYTHMA) were deployed to the scene to ensure smooth movement of vehicles and prevent any further hazards. Additionally, a few military personnel were also spotted at the scene, guarding against any attempts at illegal scooping of the spilled diesel.
Wr gathered that another truck was immediately provided to offload the remaining diesel left in the truck.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of tanker drivers and the need for caution when navigating challenging terrain. Authorities are working to clear the area and restore normalcy to the traffic flow.
