13 Arrested Following Attack on Oyo Environment Commissioner’s Convoy

Thirteen individuals have been apprehended following an attack on the convoy of the Oyo State Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, led by Commissioner Abdulmojeed Mogbonjubola, during a routine exercise on Monday.

The ministry officials were in the Mobil area on Ring Road, Ibadan, to carry out the evacuation of shanties and the removal of illegal structures occupying public spaces when they were attacked by suspected hoodlums. The assailants threw objects at the ministry’s vehicles, resulting in shattered windows, but no injuries were reported among the officials.

Following a report to the State Commissioner of Police, Ayo Shonubi, a joint team comprising the police, Amotekun, and the Civil Defense Corps was dispatched to the area on Tuesday morning. They arrested 13 suspects who were subsequently taken to the state police headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan.

Commissioner Mogbonjubola responded to the incident by reaffirming his commitment to eradicating illegal occupation of public spaces in the state. He emphasized that the state government would continue its efforts to remove unauthorized shops, structures, and shanties, and urged residents to utilize government-approved neighborhood markets for their trading activities.
