Chief Jubril Dotun Sanusi, the Jagun Olubadan of Ibadanland and Chairman/CEO of Ilaji Sports and Resorts, has canceled all plans for his 56th birthday celebration in light of the tragic road accident that claimed lives at Oke Elesin in Ona Ara Local Government. The accident, which occurred earlier this week, resulted in the loss of several lives, including promising young children, prompting Chief Sanusi to forego any form of celebration.
In a statement released today, Chief Sanusi expressed his deep sorrow over the incident, sympathizing with the bereaved families who are mourning their loved ones. “In moments like this, celebration is far from my heart. It is with a heavy spirit that I announce the cancellation of my birthday festivities in honor of the lives tragically lost in the Oke Elesin accident,” he stated.
He further emphasized that such unfortunate incidents could be prevented if corporate organizations conducting business along the roadside adhered to proper urban planning regulations. Chief Sanusi called on these organizations to cooperate with the Oyo State Government in ensuring that communities are made safer and more conducive for everyone.
“The deaths of those promising children and others could have been avoided if corporate organizations doing business on the roadside did not block water drainages,” he said. He stressed the importance of keeping drainage systems clear to allow for proper water flow, especially during rainfall, to prevent flooding and road hazards.
Chief Sanusi reiterated his commitment to using his platforms to raise awareness on issues affecting the safety and well-being of Oyo State citizens. “No birthday celebration whatsoever will hold this year, as my thoughts and prayers remain with the families affected by this heartbreaking accident,” he added.
His call for increased corporate responsibility and proactive measures to prevent similar incidents in the future reflects his concern for the community and his dedication to improving public safety across Oyo State.
