Democracy: We’ll hold you responsible, if… – Group tells Atiku, Obi, others

ABUJA – The Joint Action on Democracy (JAD) has issued a warning to prominent politicians, including Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Nasiru el-Rufai, and Abubakar Malami, stating that they will be held accountable for any actions that may threaten Nigeria’s democracy.

In a statement signed by its President, Ambassador Moses Oriri, the group expressed concern over a recent political meeting attended by these former leaders. They emphasised the need for authorities to monitor these individuals closely and take action if any destabilising activities are detected.

JAD urged Nigerian citizens to remain vigilant against any incitement of public sentiment against the government and reiterated that the enforcement of law is essential to address these threats.

The statement reads, “We have learned that the concerns of these politicians arise from President Bola Tinubu’s initiation of reforms that are showing positive results.

“JAD urges Nigerians to consider that these individuals have previously held positions of authority during times of challenge in various jurisdictions.

“We are further concerned by comments made during the recent meeting, where there were references to a ‘weak government’.

“JAD calls on the authorities to monitor the participants and to take appropriate action against any attempts that may undermine the stability of the country.”
