International Women’s Day: Women inject resilience into the custom of our society with every step they take –Dr. Adewale Kolapo Kareem (AKK).

Today, the world commemorates International Women’s Day, and as a proud son of Oyo State and aspirant for the Governorship, I stand in awe of the women who are the fundamental institution of our communities, our state, and our nation. Women are the quiet revolutionaries, they inject resilience into the custom of our society with every step they take—whether as farmers tilling the soil, or as traders igniting the markets, or as educators shaping minds. I have a vision for Oyo State women, a vision that allows their strength to be celebrated annually, but more importantly, harnessed daily as the cornerstone of a progressive and equitable future. This day is not merely a tribute; it is a clarion call to elevate their voices in the governance and destiny of our land.

The ideological heartbeat of my aspiration is rooted in the belief that true leadership emerges when every citizen—especially women—is empowered to be the best they can be without any hindrance. Oyo State’s history brims with the legacies of women whose courage reverberated beyond our six geopolitical zones, and countless unsung heroines who have held families and communities together through storms. Yet, too often, their potential remains shackled by unequal access to opportunity, resources, and representation. It is my plan for our state that women are not just beneficiaries of progress but its architects—where policies on education, healthcare, and economic empowerment reflect their needs and amplify their brilliance. This is not charity; it is justice, the bedrock of a development-orientated state.

To the young women of Oyo State, I see you as the vanguard of our tomorrow. You are the entrepreneurs dreaming beyond us, the students challenging conventions, and the activists demanding a seat at the table. My aspiration is to build a state that hands you not just promises but tools—vocational hubs, digital literacy programs, and leadership platforms—to shape a future where your ambitions know no ceiling. International Women’s Day reminds you and me that your energy is not a threat to order but the spark of innovation we desperately need. Trust me, under my leadership, Oyo state will be a state where your dreams are not deferred but ignited.

I am truly inspired by the women already leading the charge in our state—market leaders who sustain our economy, nurses who heal our sick, and mothers who help sustain our values. My commitment is to partner with you, to listen intently, and to govern with a lens that sees your struggles and triumphs as inseparable from our collective success. I dream of an Oyo State that accommodates every woman’s contribution—whether in the home, the workplace, or the public square—is met with policies that protect her dignity and reward her labour. This Women’s Day, I pledge to champion a governance model that mirrors the resilience of Oyo’s women: bold, inclusive, and unyielding in the pursuit of progress.

I wish every woman in Oyo State and beyond a Happy International Women’s Day filled with hope and recognition. I seek to serve as your Governor, and I carry a vision of a state transformed by the power of its women—a state where equity is lived as a reality and not a slogan. Let us walk this path together, not as distant dreamers but as united builders of an Oyo state that exist confidently as an instrument of possibility. Today, I salute your grace, your grit, and your greatness, knowing that the future we aspire to is already taking root in your hands. Here’s to a leadership that honours you, not just on March 8th, but every single day. Cheers.
