The presence of Governor ‘Seyi Makinde at the grand finale of the Oyo State Youth Summit 2025 underscored the administration’s unwavering commitment to unlocking the potential of young people across the state.
Addressing a vibrant gathering at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, Governor Makinde declared that empowering the youth remains central to Oyo State’s developmental agenda. He emphasized that for Nigeria to attain sustainable economic prosperity, it must prioritize youth entrepreneurship, accessible education, and increased productivity.

“Events like this are not just ceremonial,” the governor noted. “They are critical platforms to inspire, equip, and challenge our youth to lead the charge toward national transformation. I am here today because I believe in your potential, and I want to assure you that this administration is dedicated to creating the right environment for you to thrive.”

Governor Makinde, sharing from his personal journey, urged participants to shift their mindset from dependency to enterprise. He recounted how he began paying salaries at age 29 and stressed the importance of cultivating job creators rather than job seekers.

Reflecting on global examples, he cited Finland’s success through education, highlighting the need for Nigeria to improve literacy and invest deeply in human capital development. “Nobody will hold Nigeria down once we get our structure and leadership right,” he asserted.
He concluded by reaffirming his administration’s commitment to policies that promote entrepreneurship, educational advancement, and grassroots productivity. “Oyo State will continue to lead in giving youths the tools and opportunities they need to unlock their full potential,” he declared.
Earlier, Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Miss Wasilat Adegoke, praised the governor’s leadership in transforming youth development. She noted that various government-led initiatives had already begun yielding positive results in entrepreneurship and skills development.
“The Makinde administration has not only recognized the importance of youth but has taken deliberate steps to empower them,” Adegoke said, urging the youth to take ownership of their futures by being proactive, innovative, and committed to community impact.
Themed “Unlocking Youth Potential: Addressing Needs, Fulfilling Dreams,” the summit featured awareness campaigns, plenary sessions, and interactive skill-building engagements.
In recognition of his impactful leadership, Governor Makinde received a Lifetime Achievement Award in Governance and also presented honors to key stakeholders and contributors to youth empowerment.
The governor’s attendance, alongside top government officials and stakeholders, reinforced the summit’s significance and highlighted the state’s resolve to build a future anchored in youth capacity, innovation, and productivity.
