The Oyo State Football Association has announced a sweeping disciplinary action against popular Yoruba sports broadcaster, Shola Ayegbajeje, also known as AyegbaSports, banning him from all football-related activities and stadiums in the state until the end of the 2025/2026 football season.

The ban, which took effect from May 5, 2025, was issued following comments Ayegbajeje made during a live radio program on Prince FM 89.7 on May 2, in which he accused the management and players of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of match-fixing in their recent NPFL matches against Katsina United, Lobi Stars, and Remo Stars.

In a disciplinary hearing held at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Ayegbajeje, 56, admitted that his allegations were false and fabricated, citing emotional distress caused by Shooting Stars’ disappointing form toward the end of the current campaign as the reason for his outburst.

The Disciplinary Committee found him guilty of making reckless and frivolous allegations, and ordered him to write a formal apology to the management of 3SC, led by Hon. Babatunde Olaniyan David ‘Akoro’.

The Oyo FA, in a letter signed by Mr. Kehinde Adebayo Ojelowo, further directed Ayegbajeje to submit a written undertaking pledging not to engage in any conduct that could damage the integrity of football in the state.

It is worth noting that prior to the hearing, Ayegbajeje had already aired a public apology on Prince FM, addressing his remarks to 3SC, the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), the Nigeria Football Referees Association, and major football stakeholders across the country.
