Nurses and midwives at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, on Friday, suspended their industrial action following the intervention of the State Governor, Seyi Makinde.
This was contained in a statement jointly signed by the Unit Chairman, Ojewumi Olutayo, and the Unit Secretary, Adedokun Foluwake, in Ibadan, the state capital.
PUNCH Online reports that the health workers of the institution had embarked on an indefinite strike in September 2025 over welfare-related demands.
They suspended the strike following Governor Seyi Makinde’s visit to the hospital on Wednesday to engage with management, professional bodies, and the staff.
During the visit, Makinde approved a N35 million increase in the hospital’s monthly subvention. He also directed the phased payment of accumulated promotion arrears and minimum wage arrears, while ordering the integration of non-staff personnel into the hospital’s system to ensure fairness and inclusivity.
The governor further promised the immediate constitution of a Governing Council for the institution and reaffirmed his commitment to complete the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Annexe in Oyo before the end of his administration.
However, a statement jointly signed by the Unit Chairman, Olutayo, and the Unit Secretary, Foluwake, in Ibadan, the state capital, on Friday, expressed deep appreciation to the governor while describing him as a “compassionate and visionary leader” who has rekindled hope through decisive actions.
The statement read, “The Congress of nurses and midwives held on Friday, October 3, 2025, formally resolved to suspend the strike, with full services resuming immediately.
“On behalf of all nurses and midwives at LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, we acknowledge Governor Makinde as a compassionate and visionary leader whose dedication to the well-being of health workers and the people of the state remains unwavering.
“These measures not only address our immediate welfare demands but also lay the foundation for long-term stability and growth within the institution. In view of these interventions, we hereby suspend our strike action following the decision of the Congress, with full services set to resume with immediate effect.
“This gesture is not only in recognition of the governor’s magnanimity but also a reaffirmation of our commitment to delivering quality healthcare to the people. The governor has once again proven himself as a compassionate father of the state, a leader, tested and trusted.”
