Honourable Mogaji Hon. Olajide Olatoye, popularly known as Big Daddy Sugar, has congratulated the government and people of Oyo State on the occasion of the state’s 50th anniversary, describing the golden jubilee as a celebration of resilience, heritage and sustained development.
In a congratulatory message to mark the anniversary of the creation of Oyo State on February 3, 1976, Olatoye reflected on the state’s historic journey since it was carved out of the old Western State, noting that Oyo has continued to stand tall as one of Nigeria’s most influential and progressive states.
He hailed Oyo as a land blessed with rich history, valiant traditions and intellectual excellence, tracing its roots to the ancient Oyo Empire and acknowledging the contributions of past and present leaders who have shaped the political, social and cultural destiny of the state.
Olatoye urged indigenes and residents to draw inspiration from the state anthem, especially the call to be “Asiwaju” — leaders and pathfinders in all areas of endeavour.
“The spirit of Asiwaju is beyond a slogan; it is a responsibility that calls on us to lead with courage, move forward with purpose and lift others along in progress,” he said.
He called for renewed unity among the people and a recommitment to the ideals of excellence, education, culture and innovation that formed the foundation of the state.
“As we look ahead, I pray that Oyo State will continue to rise greater, stronger in unity and brighter in promise,” Olatoye stated.
He concluded by congratulating Oyo State on its golden jubilee and prayed for God’s continued blessings on the state and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
