The importance of national unity and growth was emphasized by top dignitaries at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2024 Batch ‘C’ (Stream 2) corps members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) held at the Permanent Orientation Camp, Ogbakuta, Iseyin.
The dignitaries, including Honourable Wasilat Adegoke, Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports; Hon. Justice Iyabo Yerima, Chief Judge of Oyo State; and Oba Sefiu Olawale Oyebola Adeyeri III, Aseyin of Iseyin, stressed the need for national unity and growth in their separate addresses at the ceremony.
Honourable Adegoke, who represented Governor Seyi Makinde at the ceremony, urged the corps members to see their service year as an opportunity to contribute to national growth and unity.
“The NYSC scheme is designed to promote national unity and integration,” Honourable Adegoke said. “As corps members, you have a critical role to play in promoting national growth and unity. I urge you to take this responsibility seriously and make a positive impact in your host communities.”
In her remarks, Hon. Justice Iyabo Yerima emphasized the importance of national unity in achieving national growth and development.
“National unity is essential for national growth and development,” Hon. Justice Yerima said. “As corps members, you have a responsibility to promote national unity and integration. I urge you to be good ambassadors of your families, institutions, and the NYSC.”
Oba Sefiu Olawale Oyebola Adeyeri III, Aseyin of Iseyin, also emphasized the importance of national unity and growth.
“As traditional rulers, we have a responsibility to promote national unity and growth,” Oba Adeyeri said. “I urge you to respect the culture and traditions of your host communities and to promote national unity and integration.”
The swearing-in ceremony marked the official commencement of the 2024 Batch ‘C’ (Stream 2) service year, and the corps members are expected to undergo a three-week orientation programme before being deployed to their places of primary assignment.
The orientation programme is designed to equip the corps members with the necessary skills and knowledge to enable them to contribute their quota to national development.
The programme will feature lectures, workshops, and training sessions on various topics, including leadership, entrepreneurship, and community development.
The corps members will also participate in physical training, sports, and other recreational activities designed to promote teamwork, discipline, and physical fitness.
In attendance at the ceremony were other dignitaries, including Hon. Rasaq Faniran, Chairman of Iseyin Local Government; Bisi, Oyo State NYSC Coordinator; and Com Abel Odoba Oche, representing the NYSC.
The NYSC scheme is a mandatory one-year national service programme for Nigerian graduates, designed to promote national unity, integration, and development.
