Hon. Ogunsola John Olusina, a prominent leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and an aspiring House of Representatives candidate for Oluyole, has successfully led a mass defection of members from the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to the PDP.
The significant event took place at the residence of the PDP Local Government Party Chairman, Hon. Mukaila Adegbola, where the SDP members were officially inducted into the PDP.
Hundreds of SDP supporters joined Hon. Olusina for the induction, marking a strategic move that is expected to reshape the political framework of the area, setting the stage for a realignment of power. Olusina, accompanied by a large number of SDP members, met with Hon. Adegbola to formalize the transition process, which was attended by several notable figures from both parties.
Key representatives of the SDP defectors included Mr. Dauda Hamzat Awayewaserere, the Chairman of Chairmen; Taiwo Lasisi, the Women Leader of Oluyole Local Government; Mr. Muideen Muritala; Alhaji Dauda; Mrs. Taiwo; Mrs. Kayode; Mr. Alapinni Lukman; Mr. Salawu Samuel; and Mr. Tijani Taofeek.
Women leaders from various wards who participated in the transition included Mrs. Olayiwola Ayobami from Ward 1, Mrs. Abosede Olayiwola from Ward 2, Mrs. Rebecca Dasofunjo from Ward 4, Mrs. Babatunde Edun from Ward 5, Mrs. Fatimo Shittu from Ward 6, and Mrs. Fatimo Adebowale from Ward 7.
Local Government Executives who took part in the event were Mr. Olawale Akeem Babatunde, the Financial Secretary; Mrs. Kayode Ajoke, an Ex Officio member; Mrs. Shittu Latifate, the Auditor; Mrs. Afola tobi E. W., also an Ex Officio member; Alhaji Agboola Dauda; and Mr. Muideen Muritala.
The event marked a significant milestone in the defection process, signaling the formal integration of SDP members into the PDP fold.
The political shift is expected to have considerable implications for the upcoming elections and could drastically alter the power dynamics within Oluyole Local Government.
The PDP Party Chairman acknowledged the good works of Governor ‘Seyi Makinde, stating that his leadership was instrumental in the success of the efforts to recruit the SDP defectors.
He reiterated that the PDP in Oyo State, led by the indefatigable governor, will continue to promote growth and development for the citizens, providing genuine dividends of democracy.
He emphasized that no other political party or leader in today’s Nigeria compares to the PDP and Governor Makinde. He also assured the SDP defectors that their official induction into the PDP would be communicated in due course.
In their words, former Executive Council members of the Social Democratic Party in Oluyole Local Government and all the wards’ members within the Local Government have reiterated that they have all decamped to the People’s Democratic Party in Oluyole Local Government.
They made this announcement following insinuations from unsuspected quarters and those who felt threatened by their exodus defection, that they are not members of the PDP yet.
Speaking with Oyomind, Hon. Amuzat Adesina, who spoke on behalf of the Chairman and entire former leadership of the SDP in the Local Government, noted that these insinuations are being fuelled by bad faith actors in the Local Government.
He added that their decision to join the PDP was fuelled by the good performance of the State Governor, Seyi Makinde and their belief that the party is the best in the state.
Our pathway to PDP was executed by the continued engagement of Hon. Ogunsola John Olusina who wooed all of us, who were the former Excos and Members of SDP to PDP.
This development is to bolster the PDP’s chances in the coming elections.
We shall continue to bring more people to the party and strengthen the PDP’s presence in Oluyole Local Government, Hon. Ogunsola John Olusina promised on behalf of PDP.
