Olubadan celebrates Obasanjo at 87, Makinde on award

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, has extended congratulations to former President Olusegun Obasanjo on his 87th birthday and to the governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, for receiving the Governor of the Year Award from the Leadership Newspaper.

Oba Balogun gave this message through a press statement by his Personal Assistant (Media), Oladele Ogunsola in which the two celebrators were described as wonderful achievers.

The monarch remarked that the former President Obasanjo, who attained the age of 87 during the week remains an icon and somebody with uncommon grace as his advanced age notwithstanding, he remains very active physically and mentally.

“A brother and a very good friend, Chief Obasanjo has found favour from his creator and I’m very thankful to God for him. At his age, he is still very active, strong and looking very healthy. He is an uncommon being and remains a blessing to the country as his mental faculty through which he still offers useful suggestions to the leaders is still intact.

“I can only continue to wish him well as he continues his sojourn on this part of divide and pray that the uncommon grace and favour being enjoyed by him would not cease but continue to blossom and flourish. Hearty eighty-seven cheers to a wonderful brother and friend”, the statement added.

On the Governor of the Year Award given to Makinde by the Leadership Newspaper, Oba Balogun described it as something that didn’t come to him as a surprise, adding that “it is a well deserved award going by the activities and performance of the governor in the state.

“It is a thing of joy that those people outside of Oyo State and not just ordinary people, a very reputable media organization, Leadership Newspaper could see the beauty and wonders of God in our state through Engr. Seyi Makinde. It is indeed a great honour to our darling state.

“I congratulate the Governor of the Year, whom I commonly refer to as the ‘People’s Governor’ on the award which is nothing but a testimony to the age-long aphorism that a golden fish has no hiding place. And as Americans would say, you ain’t see anything yet. Just remain yourself with your focus and mission mantra”, Oba Balogun said further.
