The demand of one of the children of late Oyo state governor, Chief Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala, to exhume his body for paternity test of all his children that has been generating reactions is what this rejoinder is based on. Renowned OAP and social commentator, Oriyomi Hamzat made a video denouncing this call by Mrs Oluwatoyin Aderinto (nee Akala). Many other commentators have also taken to the social media to condemn the first child of the late charismatic leader.
But my own opinion is that several of the comments are inspired by sentiment and naked immorality, beclouded opinions. They view the action as unfair to Akala for he is supposed to have been allowed to rest in peace and that the attempt is uncalled for believing the children have much to share of his wealth such that they don’t need to find out who are entitled to the the wealth or inheritance!
But I want to differ on this both from the side of Akala, who will want his property to be shared by his legitimate children if he were to be alive. Wonder why he has not written a will! Lesson to many of us who are still alive.
Akala may love to be woken up to make sure his properties go to his legitimate children if that will prevent problems after his death and make him rest in peace for ever. So, for many who think the children have gotten no right to validate their right to a share of the inheritance, it’s a wrong assumption, it is like encouraging charlatans and thieves who want to reap from where they didn’t sow, to succeed. Akala while alive was noted for being a socialite and I know there were no mistresses he kept that he would not have settled. So, why are some now bringing children home to cause confusion? Therefore, to me, the children’s paternity need be determined and if only DNA will be the last option, so be it. Or perhaps there are other methods!
Franky, I wonder how many people reason. Morality preaches that thou shall not take what is not your rightful thing while religion also backs it up by saying thou shall not reap where you didn’t sow. Why are people now supporting those who are trying to claim what is not their rightful inheritance? This is naked immorality! And unfair. Issues are to be examined critically and not by mere sentiment and emotional outbursts as Mr Oriyomi and some others have done. It’s an unfair assessment of the issue. This is my personal view or opinion and it is based on morality and spirituality.
May Akala’s soul rest in peace even if exhumation of his body is carried out if only that is what will make him rest in peace for ever!
