Urges Citizens to Uphold “Asiwaju” Spirit
The Executive Chairman of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), Hon. Taiwo Lekan Salami, has congratulated the government and people of Oyo State on the occasion of the state’s 50th anniversary, describing the milestone as a celebration of resilience, excellence and steady growth.
In a golden jubilee message to mark the anniversary of the creation of Oyo State on February 3, 1976, Salami reflected on the state’s rich history and enduring legacy, noting that Oyo was carved out of the old Western State and has since grown into one of Nigeria’s most prominent states.

He praised Oyo as a land of “rich history, valiant heritage and intellectual prowess,” recalling its roots in the ancient Oyo Empire and its contribution to Nigeria through notable leaders and icons in politics, culture and social development.
Salami urged indigenes and residents to reflect on the message of the state anthem, particularly the call to be “Asiwaju” : leaders and pathfinders in all spheres of life.

“The spirit of Asiwaju is not just a slogan, it is a responsibility,” he said, adding that citizens must continue to stand out, move forward and carry others along in the journey of progress.
He called on the people to live up to the dreams of the founding fathers by strengthening unity, renewing commitment to excellence and building on the legacy of courage, education, culture and innovation that defines the state.
“As we look to the future, may Oyo State rise even greater, stronger in unity and brighter in promise,” Salami stated.
He concluded by wishing the state a happy 50th anniversary and prayed for continued blessings for Oyo State and Nigeria.
