MAKINDE’S ICR CORRIDOR: Exclusions and Compensation Plans for Affected Property Owners, There Is Real Hope For All

The Ibadan Circular Road project, a flagship initiative of Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration, is transforming Oyo State’s infrastructure. This ambitious project is expected to contribute significantly to the state’s development.

The ongoing amnesty program offers property owners an opportunity to regularize structures built without proper approval. However, certain categories of properties are excluded from this program, as clarified by Commissioner Akin-Funmilayo Williams. These exclusions include, Properties in state government acquisition zones, Properties within the circular road or circular road setback, Properties directly under power lines, Properties too close to dams or streams, Properties built on roads, Properties within pipeline setbacks, Properties involved in court or financial crime matters among others.

These exclusions are necessary to safeguard public safety and maintain strategic areas for future development and urban planning purposes.

Regarding the 500-meter setback regulation, Commissioner Akin-Funmilayo mentioned that this policy is under review. An enumeration and compilation process is ongoing to identify affected properties for adequate compensation. Governor Makinde has tasked the Ministry to expedite this process, ensuring timely compensation for affected property owners.

The Ibadan Circular Road project was initially conceived by Sen. Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, with a 150m-180m setback. However, subsequent administrations revisited and revised the plan. The late Gov. Adebayo Alao Akala’s administration did not implement the project, while the late Sen. Abiola Akanji Ajimobi’s administration revised the setback to 500m.

Governor Makinde’s administration is committed to completing the Ibadan Circular Road project, renamed Sen. Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja Circular Road. This 110km road will be the second-longest in Nigeria.

The Oyo State Building Permit Amnesty program offers a significant opportunity for property owners to secure legal status for their buildings. All stakeholders are urged to take advantage of this program and comply with regulations to avoid future conflicts and penalties.

The Ibadan Circular Road project is a critical investment in Oyo State’s future, expected to bring economic growth, improved transportation, job creation, increased property values, reduced traffic congestion, and improved quality of life for millions.
