Sachet water may be sold for N50, says Association
The Association of Table Water Producers on Wednesday, February 28, said that a sachet of water may be sold for N50.
This announcement was disclosed at a press conference on Wednesday, February 28.
During the briefing, a woman whose name wasn’t mentioned, said: “It is going for fifty naira and it is even going up to hundred naira if care is not taken. At our own point, there is nothing we can do. The cost of production as at last December, we are buying materials for N1,100 per KG.
“As I talk to you now that same kg of nylon is now three thousand six hundred, three thousand seven hundred and that is N3.7 to N3.8 million naira.
“We are no more costing the cost of treatment we don’t put it into our cost, what we do now is just the materials and the frequency with which the nylon producer increases the price and they do it with maybe N20,000 or N30,000. They go as far as N550,000 on one increase, and this increment come three times within one week, and it is difficult for us to continue to increase that water, that is the price of our water, and that is exactly where our fear is coming from.
“Because an ordinary Nigerians cannot afford pure water, I don’t know where we are going we want you people to help us explain these things to everybody. We are dying, every water producer is more or less funding the business from other sources or even borrowed money.
“So we want Nigerians to bear with us that the way things are going water might go to hundred naira per sachet which we don’t want. We don’t want Nigerians to buy water more than twenty naira per sachet, the way its going now the cost of the cost of production you all know as at the time we are buying diesel for N220, water was N10, as am talking to you now we are buying diesel for N1750, check the ratio,we don’t want sachet water to leave the system.”
