Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has accused the Federal Government of taking credit for the ongoing 110km Ibadan Circular Road, insisting it is 100% funded and executed by Oyo State Government.

Makinde raised alarm Friday in a disclaimer on his campaign X handle after FG advertorial in Punch Newspaper (Oct 3) listed Federal Government projects nationwide and included Circular Road as “state-led” project.

Makinde response: “The 110km Circular Road project is being constructed by the H.E. Seyi Makinde-led Oyo State Government. The Federal Government needs to stop claiming the project as one of its own achievements. The project is not ‘state-led’ as stated in today’s Punch Newspaper; it is 100% being executed by the OYSG”

He linked it to earlier dispute over Ibadan Airport upgrade (Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport). FG via FCT Minister Nyesom Wike claimed FG gave Oyo N50bn for airport.

Makinde: “This penchant for stealing OYSG projects needs to stop! The other day, Minister Nyesom Wike LIED that the FG gave Oyo State N50B for the Ibadan Airport upgrade project. The Ibadan Airport upgrade is another project being executed 100% by the OYSG, which the FG, through its agents, including HoR member Akin Alabi, has been trying to claim credit for”

Oyo Govt clarification (Sept 2025): President Tinubu approved airport upgrade “at no cost to the Federal Government”. All components – runway expansion, airfield lighting, navigational systems, apron, dualised Airport Road, new international terminal (N41bn initial cost flagged off Sept 2024) – fully funded by Oyo State. “Any suggestion to the contrary is fabrication and a lie from the pit of hell” – Sulaimon Olanrewaju, Media Aide.

Circular Road is 110km, 4-lane orbital road around Ibadan, designed to ease traffic, 10-20 year development plan. Gov says affected property owners will be compensated.

Makinde is now Presidential candidate of Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) for 2027.
