Today, on Teachers’ Day 2026, we celebrate the men and women who stand every day in our classrooms to shape the minds, character, knowledge and future of our children. Teachers are not simply employees of government; they are nation-builders and partners in the development of society. Their sacrifices, patience and commitment deserve more than occasional praise. They deserve a government that recognises their importance, listens to their concerns and makes their welfare and professional growth a genuine priority. As Oyo State looks towards 2027, the question before us is how to build an education system where every teacher can work with dignity, confidence and renewed hope.
Under the Solutions 2027 agenda of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Oloye Taofeek Adegboyega Adegoke FCA is presenting a proposed vision in which teachers occupy a central position in the transformation of education and human capital development in Oyo State. The proposed agenda includes more regular training and retraining for teachers, professional development opportunities, access to affordable loans, empowerment programmes and the employment of more qualified teachers. A key target is to work towards reducing overcrowding in our classrooms, with a goal of 30 students per class by this time next year, creating a more conducive learning environment where teachers can give greater attention to individual students.
For too long, discussions about education have sometimes focused mainly on buildings and examinations while the people who deliver education every day receive insufficient attention. Adegoke’s Solutions 2027 agenda places both the teacher and the learner at the centre of the education conversation. A properly trained and adequately supported teacher is better positioned to inspire students, embrace modern teaching methods, identify talent and prepare young people for a changing economy. By expanding the teaching workforce, improving teacher training and working towards 30 students per classroom, the proposed ADC approach seeks to create schools where teaching and learning can take place more effectively.
As we move towards the 2027 governorship election, the people of Oyo State will have the opportunity to examine the different candidates, political parties, programmes and policy proposals before making their choice. For teachers, the conversation should be clear: What will each political platform do to improve teacher development, create employment opportunities, expand empowerment and strengthen education in Oyo State? The ADC will continue to present its Solutions 2027 agenda under Oloye Taofeek Adegboyega Adegoke for public consideration. Today, we celebrate every teacher who continues to give their best despite the challenges. Happy Teachers’ Day to all teachers across Oyo State! May your dedication continue to produce generations of responsible, knowledgeable and successful citizens.
