Oyo State — The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo Central Senatorial District has dismissed reports that its Ward Chairmen in Atiba Local Government Area defected to the Allied People’s Movement (APM).
The report, credited to Lateef Ridwan Opeyemi, alleged that PDP Ward Chairmen in Atiba met with Senator Monsurat Sunmonu on September 11, 2026, and participated in a sensitization exercise at Agunpopo on September 17, pledging loyalty to the APM.
In a jointly signed statement issued on September 18, 2026, the Oyo Central PDP Senatorial Chairman, Hon. Adewusi Adegbola, and the Senatorial Secretary, Mr. Rafiu Idris, described the report as false and a calculated attempt to mislead the public.
The leadership stated that the individuals mentioned are not members of the PDP and emphasized that the party remains united with no factions.
It clarified that the Oyo State PDP has not merged with the APM or any other party and retains its full structure across all levels.
The party also confirmed its candidates for the 2027 general elections in Oyo Federal Constituency: Hon. Idris Olanrewaju Afolabi (ALOMA) for Oyo Federal Constituency, Hon. Salami Rafiu for Afijio State Constituency, Hon. Afeez Bashorun (Afeesco) for Atiba State Constituency, and Hon. Akeem Jimoh (AJI) for Oyo East and Oyo West State Constituency.
Members and supporters were urged to disregard the rumour and remain focused on delivering victory for the PDP in 2027.
